In Freshman football action tonight it was the Highlands Bluebirds putting some points on the board early and often. Boone Co took the opening kickoff and drove the length of the field to strike first, however, the Birds proceeded to run off 41 straight unanswered points of their own. The halftime score was 34 to 8 and the Birds opened up the 2nd half with a scoring drive of their own. It was then that the coaches started substituting freely.
Led by the strong running of Jac Collinsworth, who scored 3 first half TD's and showed some tremendous speed and the cannon arm of QB Donovan McCoy, the Birds bounced back from a 1 pt loss last Saturday to Class 6A Louisville St. X.
McCoy, a 6'0 165lb lefthander, threw several deep balls connecting with wideout David Christian numerous times throughout the game. He is also a threat to run the ball as he scored on the ground as well. I expect the Birds to be an early favorite to win the NKY Big School Title. They will face Ryle next week who is coming off a tough 1pt win over Cov Cath.
