Week 6 Predictions

Well week 6 is here and it should be a fun one as many teams get in to district play. A lot of big games tonight and it's football weather...rain, mud, and cool temperatures. Here's our predictions for this week:

St. Xavier, OH (4-0) @ Highlands (5-0)

In this nationally televised game, the Bombers of St. X will come across the river and take on the Bluebirds. Highlands has historically struggled against big Cincy schools but could this be the year they finally pull one out?

Predictions:

Lee: The Birds should be able to hang with the Bombers for a half, but in the end they won't be able to overcome the depth and numbers that St. X brings. The Bombers should win by 3 td's.

St. X- 35
Highlands- 14

Ryan: Offensively, the Birds should be able to move the ball and put some points up on the board. Defensively though, I think X size up front will be too much for the undersized D-line to stop.

St. X- 38
Highlands- 17

Conner (5-0) @ Simon Kenton (3-1)

In a key 6A district game, the Cougars of Conner will travel to Independence to take on the Pioneers. This game has all the makings of a classic and could be the first step for one of these two teams getting the #1 seed in the playoffs.

Prediction:

Lee: SK should be pumped for this match up coming off the loss to Henry Clay. I think they win at home against a very explosive Conner Cougar team. Look for Miles Simpson to have a career night.

SK- 42
Conner- 36

Ryan: With the rain not slowing up any, this game looks to favor the Neers and Rb Miles Simpson. However, I still like the Cougars. They seem to be the more complete team of the two.

Conner- 35
SK- 31

Dayton (0-4) @ Beechwood (1-3)

In a 1A district game, the Greendevils will travel to Fort Mitchell to take on the Tigers of Beechwood. Dayton has struggled early as his Beechwood. Can the Devils upset the Beechies?

Prediction:

Lee: Dayton will be the red-headed stepchild in this one as the Tigers are looking for an opponent they can give a beat down to. This one will get ugly real quick.

Beechwood- 61
Dayton- 0

Ryan: Dayton lost to Newport 56-0....Beechwood has struggled early but they are much better than the Wildcats. I like the Beechies in a romp.

Beechwood- 56
Dayton- 0

Campbell Co (2-2) @ Boone Co (1-3)

In another key 6A district game, the Camels travel to Florence to take on the Rebels in the nkysports.com game of the week. Boone has played a tough early season schedule but will they have enough to win at home against Campbell?

Prediction:

Lee: This is a toss up as both teams have shown glimpses of looking pretty good and also being somewhat bad football teams. I like Boone Co. at home as Quainoo goes off.

Boone Co- 36
Campbell Co- 18

Ryan: Campbell has struggled against good running teams early on. Although Boone isn't what they normally are, the rain should favor them in this one as Campbell likes to primarily pass the ball.

Boone Co- 35
Campbell Co-14

Holmes (4-0) @ Pendleton Co (3-1)

The Dogs travel to Falmouth take on the Wildcats of Pendleton Co in a 4A district game. Pendleton has played Holmes in a few years, but the last two times they've played have been blowouts. Will this year be any different?

Prediction

Lee: The Bulldogs continue their winning ways and run all over the Wildcats.

Holmes- 42
Pendleton- 12

Ryan: Too much speed and athleticism for Holmes on both sides of the ball for the Cats to overcome. Holmes rolls.

Holmes- 49
Pendleton- 7

Cooper (2-2) @ Ryle (3-1)

The Jags are coming in to this one off a heart-breaking loss to the Juggs of Lloyd, as they led 35-14 but ended up losing 36-35 in the closing seconds. Cooper is improved but are they improved enough to give the Raiders a game?

Prediction

Lee: Ryle will show the Jags who the best team in Boone Co. is this week and they will win in convincing fashion. Look for the Hempel/Nichols connection to show up in this one.

Ryle- 28
Cooper- 12

Ryan: Cooper is improved but not improved enough to stick with the Raiders. Look for Elliott to have a huge game.

Ryle- 49
Cooper- 14

Dixie Heights (2-3) @ Scott (1-3)

The Red Colonels travel to Taylor Mill to take on the Eagles of Scott after a big homecoming loss to Ryle last week. Scott has improved each week but have they improved enough to pick a district win?

Prediction:

Lee: Look for the Colonels to get back on track with a big win over the Eagles.

Dixie- 48
Scott- 12

Ryan: Dixie has too many weapons offensively for the Eagles to stop. Dixie rolls big.

Dixie- 49
Scott- 0

Newcath (1-4) @ Covcath (2-3)

The Breds will travel to Park Hills Saturday afternoon to take on the Colonels in what has developed in to a nice rivalry over the past few years. Covcath has improved each week while Newcath has struggles at times.

Prediction

Lee: This may be the second best game this week next to the Conner/SK match up. Newcath is hungry and looking for a win while the Colonels have been the most improved team in NKY this year, IMO. I expect a close one with the Colonels pulling it out.

Covcath- 21
Newcath- 14

Ryan: I think Covcath's overall size will be the difference in this one. Newcath's offense is too one dimensional to knock off the Colonels. I like Covcath in this one.

Covcath- 31
Newcath- 21

Scores/Predictions:

Walton Verona @ Bellevue

Lee: Bellevue 36 Walton 18
Ryan: Bellevue 42 Walton 14

Holy Cross @ Columbus Bishop Ready

Lee: Bishop Ready 28 Holy Cross 21
Ryan: Bishop Ready 24 Holy Cross 14

Estill Co @ Newport

Lee: Newport 18 Estill Co 14
Ryan: Newport 35 Estill Co 14

Pick Em Challenge Standings:

Lee: 35-11
Ryan: 35-11
