Week 5 Predictions

It's hard to believe week 5 is already here and the regular season is half over for some teams. Here are our picks and predictions for this week:

Newport (1-2) @ Dayton (0-3)

The Wildcats are coming in off a tough 20-14 loss to Harrison Co while Dayton lost 40-27 to Lloyd. Both teams seem to be struggling early.

Predictions:

Lee: Newport will light up the Greendevils this week and should do it by 3 td's.

Newport 36
Dayton 7

Ryan: Dayton has shown they can put some points up on the board, but I don't think they'll have enough to knock off the Wildcats. Look for Newport to even their record at 2-2.

Newport 35
Dayton 19

Ryle (2-1) @ Dixie Heights (2-2)

The Raiders come in to Dixie after a 45-0 win over Newcath this past week, while Dixie suffered their second straight loss to Conner 36-20. In the nkysports.com game of the week, Ryle will try to spoil the Colonels homecoming.

Predictions:

Lee: This is a big game for both teams and with the way the Raiders are playing and Dixie coming off 2 losses, I look for Ryle to take this one by a TD.

Ryle 21
Dixie 14

Ryan: I think Ryle's running game really wears down the Colonels in a shootout. Dixie has shown they're vulnerable against good rushing teams, while Ryle has shown good passing teams can have success against them. Still, I like the Riaders.

Ryle 38
Dixie 27

Boone Co (1-2) @ Highlands (4-0)

The Rebels come in this one limping big time after suffering a 63-14 loss to Anderson, OH last week. Highlands on the other hand knocked off Cincinnati Withrow 21-0. Can Highlands keep the momentum going? Or do they get caught looking ahead to their nationally televised game against Cincy St. X?

Predictions:

Lee: The Birds are playing their first home game of the season in front of a homecoming crowd so I predict this one to be a win for Highlands. Boone Co is just too one dimensional.

Highlands 51
Rebels 16

Ryan: With Cincy St X a week away, I look for Dale Mueller to keep the offense very "vanilla." Still, I don't see the Rebels stopping the Ft. Thomas squad.

Highlands 42
Boone Co 10

Conner (4-0) @ Holy Cross (2-1)

Cougars come in off a 36-20 win over Dixie, while the Indians come in off an emotional one point OT loss to Beechwood, 36-35. Can the Indians rebound against a good 6A Conner squad?

Predictions:

Lee: Although I think this one will be close, I like the Cougars to continue to roll and pull out the victory over the Indians. Nick West should have a nice game in a battle of two stud Qb's.

Conner 38
Holy Cross 24

Ryan: Look for Conner to light the scoreboard up. Holy Cross simply doesn't have the personnel to stop the Cougars offense. In a homecoming for Coach Trosper to Tom Ellis Field in Covington, I like the Hebron boys.

Conner 41
Holy Cross 14

Cooper (2-1) @ Lloyd (1-2)

Cooper is coming off a tough 28-21 loss to Holmes, while Lloyd comes in off a 40-27 win over Dayton. Can the Jags rebound and improve to 3-1 heading in to district play?

Predictions:

Lee: Cooper let me down last week but should rebound to take the Juggs on the road.

Cooper 22
Lloyd 18

Ryan: Dvontae Bradley should be the difference in this one. Cooper found ways to keep Holmes from keying on their stud RB in the second half of last week's game by getting QB Schulkers involved and I expect that to continue this week. Jagswin on the road.

Cooper 35
Lloyd 21

Beechwood (1-2) @ Covcath (1-3)

Both teams picked up their first wins of the season this past week. Beechwood came from behind to beat Holy Cross 36-35 in OT while Covcath dropped the Camels 33-14. Who gets their second win of the season?

Predictions:

Lee: I really think the Colonels are improving and with this game being played in Park Hills I like Covcath in a shootout. I think both Qb's will have a good game running and throwing the ball.

Covcath 41
Beechwood 28

Ryan: Covcath did some great things this past week and got both Alex Connelly and Leo Schaefer involved to take some pressure off Erpenbeck offensively. I expect the Colonels to continue to improve and take this one at home.

Covcath 35
Beechwood 22

Other Predictions:

Scott @ Harrison Co

Lee: Harrison Co 36-18
Ryan: Scott 28-21

Shawnee @ Ludlow

Lee: Shawnee 21-7
Ryan: Shawnee 35-0

Holmes @ Bourbon Co

Lee: Holmes 28-14
Ryan: Holmes 31-7

Henry Clay @ Simon Kenton

Lee: Simon Kenton 28-27
Ryan: Henry Clay 34-28

Standings in "Pick 'Em Challenge"
Lee- 29-7
Ryan- 27-9
