Heading in to this season coach Dale Mueller of Highlands listed "national champions" as one of his team goals. His players bought in to the statement and it was on full display this past Friday as the Birds knocked off Cincinnati St. Xavier 12-7 in a nationally televised game. The win over the Bombers, ranked 16th by the USA Today Top 25 poll heading in to Friday's game, has catapulted the Birds in to the USA Today top 25 at #23. It was a statement game for the Bluebirds last Friday as they bested Fab 50 ranked St. Xavier (Cincinnati, OH) 12-7. The two time defending class 5A state champions had gone winless in their last 9 games against three other Cincinnati powers- Elder, Moeller, and Colerain. Highlands never trailed and held the Bombers scoreless until the final 27 seconds. The Bluebirds play Dixie Heights on Friday.
